“Gunfire is about the worst thing you can do to your unprotected ears”

So, what’s the BIG deal ABOUT Electronic Ear-pro?

I had the same exact question, up until about a week ago… I have always used either the inner-ears with flanges, like the Peltor Sport Tri-Flange Corded Reusable Earplugs  or the Walker’s Razor Slim Passive Earmuffs

but, recently, I saw a couple of reviews in praise of the AXIL TRACKR Electronic Earmuffs and decided to see what the fuss was all about first-hand… boy was I impressed!

They have dual microphones that capture the ambient, surrounding sounds, playing them back through the ear muffs, but instantly & automatically (within 0.02 seconds!) compressing any sound over 85dB. This allows you to hear everything going on around you, especially conversations, while still protecting your ears from gunfire.

I will admit, the sound quality is a bit “tinny” sounding, but it honestly didn’t really bother me all that much; I just sort of noticed it at the outset.

One side has a volume adjustment knob, to control the incoming sound, setting it to your preferred ambient noise level. You can actually set the volume pretty high and it’s still not overly loud, while actively blocking the ear-drum bursting sound of live-fire.

The sound while shooting was pleasant as well; again, I had to get used to it, because I was so accustomed to everything being incredibly muffled, but even the shots sounded crisp and clear, while not hurting my ears. It was really pretty cool!

CONCLUSION

They are obviously more expensive than traditional, passive plugs or muffs, but I am slowly going to be switching all of my kid’s and “loaner” ear-pro over to these, so that they can be worn the entire range session.
